It’s no secret computer science is highly male dominated. That’s why companies and organisations are beginning to offer Women in Tech Scholarships to introduce more diversity in technology. These scholarships and bursaries open many doors typically closed women, especially with the rising costs of higher education.
To help you get started, here’s my list of scholarships for women in technology.
Adobe Research Women in Technology Scholarships
As long as you work in a computer science field and don’t have a close family member working at Adobe Research, you can apply for the Adobe Research Women in Technology Scholarship. The scholarship includes a one-time payment of $10,000, a Creative Cloud subscription membership for one year and an Adobe Research mentor.
To be eligible for this bursary, you must be a female student currently enrolled as an undergraduate (2nd year or above) or masters student at a university. You can apply here.
Amazon Women in Innovation Bursary
The Amazon Women in Innovation Bursary is a programme for Electronic Engineering, Robotics & Intelligent Systems, and Computer Science students at UK universities. Students who receive the scholarship receive a bursary providing £3,500 to £7,500 annually to support their living costs while studying, as well as careers advice, CV building, and interview training.
The bursary is available to undergraduate students at Edinburgh University, Churchill College in the University of Cambridge and King’s College London.
AnitaB.org Tech Journey Scholarship Fund
If you’re from the US and demonstrate a low-income status, then you may be eligible for funding through the AnitaB.org Tech Journey Scholarship Fund. Funds will be made available to eligible women in tech on a first-come, first-serve basis and awards will be limited to a maximum of $599. Apply here.
Avanade STEM Scholarships
Avanade are investing in the future of young women by offering a STEM scholarship. They’re vageu about the details, but Avanade have features from previous scholars talking their experiences here.
Bursaries from WEST
Each year, WEST makes a number of small bursaries (usually between £50 – £150) to women living and studying in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire (UK), to encourage them in careers in male-dominated industries. You can find out more information here.
Cyber First Bursary
For budding Cyber Security Students in the UK, GCHQ offers scholarships worth £4,000 a year! It’s open to students with three A-levels at grade B or above and have an offer to study, or are currently in their first year of a STEM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering or Maths) degree, at a UK university. Digital Her recently has teamed up with Code Nation to offer four, fully funded coding scholarships. They are for a 3 month supported training programme, where Digital Her’s will become a Junior Developer by learning core coding principles, front and back-end development, and key commercial and soft skills such as the agile methodology and teamwork.

Faculty for the Future
Launched in 2004, The Faculty for the Future program provides funding for women from emerging economies to pursue PhD and postdoctoral studies in STEM fields at the leading universities abroad. Faculty for the Future grants are based on actual costs for eligible expenses up to a maximum of $50,000 per year for a PhD and maximum $40,000 per year for a Post-doc and may be renewed through to completion of studies.

Google Conference and Travel Scholarships
Everyone deserves an opportunity to pursue connections in the industry, networking with peers, and a career path in technology. To help break down the barriers that prevent underrepresented groups in technology and business from attending leading conferences, Google Conference and Travel Scholarships offer financial support for selected conferences in the tech industry and related fields.

GopherCon UK's Scholarship Program
GopherCon UK offers the most up-to-date Go programming information and training. Their program provides aide to members of underrepresented groups, including women, who may not otherwise be able to attend their conference for financial reasons. Intel Women in Technology Scholarships
Through their Women in Technology Scholarship program, Intel hopes to increase awareness and encourage a new generation of high-achieving women to take up the challenge of a career in science and technology.

(ISC)² Women in Info-Sec Scholarships
There are up to ten (ISC)² Women in Info-Sec scholarship awards, each offer between $1,000 – $6,000 for a years study. You can apply internationally, as long as your GPA equivalent is at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. Applications and further information can be made here.
J.P. Morgan's Winning Women in Technology
First year Women in STEM undergraduates can apply for the Winning Women in Technology Scholarship. You will receive £3,000 per year of study for 3 years, and a paid industrial placement opportunity in J.P. Morgan’s technology department as a Software Engineer.

L’Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Fellowships
Aimed at Post-Graduate Women in Science, the L’Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Fellowships award five endowments of £15,000 (for UK applicants) – and yes, computing is one of these sciences.

Nutanix ♥ Women in Technology Scholarships
The Nutanix Women in Tech Scholarship is for students in their final year of an undergraduate or higher degree. They award up to $7500 in tuition and fees, and you can apply from the US, UK, India and Serbia.

Palantir Scholarships for Women in Technology
For full-time undergraduate or Master’s students enrolled in an accredited European college/university, the Palantir Scholarships invite Women in Tech to visit their London office for a full-day, all-expenses paid developmental workshop – as well as provide £5,500 for academic support. Apply here.
The Science Ambassador Scholarship
Cards Against Humanity present this full–tuition scholarship for a woman in science, technology, engineering, or math. Despite the programme being US based, you do not need to be a US Citizen to apply!
To apply, you must film a three–minute video of yourself explaining a STEM topic you’re passionate about. You can register your interest and apply here.
Toptal Scholarships for Women
Toptal awards $10,000 and a year of mentorship to five future female leaders who want to change the world. This program is for ambitious women, 16 years or older, who are passionate about making some meaningful change for a community or cause they care about.

Sky Women in Technology Scholars
Sky are offering five women (aged 18 and over) £25,000 funding and mentoring to develop their own technology project. The project can be in any discipline of technology (e.g. digital, VR, AI, robotics, broadcast engineering, software development…..) as long as you can justify how it would make a difference.

WTM Scholarship for Computer Science & Gaming
Women Techmakers Scholars will each receive a 7,000 EUR award (or local equivalent) for the academic year and be invited to the annual Google Student Retreat.
Applicant eligibility depends on your region, which you can find here, but you must (plan to) study a computer science or gaming based degree.
